Cabell to Introduce Resolution Affirming States Rights and Supporting Texas’ Ability to Defend Its Border
1/26/2024
HARRISBURG – Rep. Mike Cabell (R-Luzerne) today said he will soon be introducing a concurrent resolution that affirms state sovereignty and supports Texas in its ability to combat illegal immigration in the wake of federal inaction and obstruction.

Most recently, the Biden administration has further weakened the southern border with Texas by impeding the ability of the Texas National Guard to assist with illegal immigration enforcement and removing physical illegal immigration deterrents placed on the border by the Texas government.

“President Biden and his administration have actively obstructed the ability of Texas and other border states to enforce our laws and stem the tide of illegal immigration into this country. In fact, with the truly astounding illegal immigration statistics we see, Texas and other states have the constitutional right to defend themselves when the federal government has not provided assistance or actually impeded their ability to defend their borders and sovereignty,” Cabell said.

“By moving forward with this resolution, we will send a message to the federal government that the Pennsylvania General Assembly stands with Texas, we stand with the ability of states to defend their borders when the federal government fails in its obligation to do so, and we will put the safety and security of our citizens above ideologically-driven idleness when it comes to enforcing our laws against illegal immigration,” added Cabell.

In addition to the resolution, Cabell also said he will soon send a letter to Gov. Josh Shapiro and Attorney General Michelle Henry encouraging them to take whatever steps they can to show that Pennsylvania stands with Texas and the ability of states to defend themselves and their citizens.

“We must speak with one voice that Pennsylvania will not stand for inaction as the federal government refuses to enforce our immigration laws,” Cabell noted. “As the Biden administration continues with its policy of pass-and-parole for illegal immigrants, we must stand in solidarity with states like Texas who are taking constitutionally necessary action to protect our borders and ensure the rule of law in this country.”
