Helm Receives House Committee Assignments
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Sue Helm (R-Dauphin) today announced that she has been appointed to serve on the House Gaming Oversight, Professional Licensure, Urban Affairs and Tourism and Recreational Development committees during the 2015-16 legislative session.
“I am pleased that I have been assigned to committees that will allow me to put my business background and experience to good use,” said Helm. “I am especially pleased to be back on the Tourism committee, which works on legislation that helps to grow one of our state’s major industries. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
The Gaming Oversight Committee was created to oversee the implementation of slot machines and table games in Pennsylvania, as well as the state’s bingo, small games of chance and amusement laws. The committee also has oversight of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and gaming issues within the Department of Revenue, the Office of Attorney General and the Pennsylvania State Police.
“Now that redistricting has resulted in Hollywood Casino being included in the 104th, it only made sense for me to retain my seat on the Gaming Oversight Committee,” Helm added. “I’ll be directly involved in considering legislation that impacts the operation of the casino and the hundreds of constituents who make a living there.”
The Professional Licensure Committee considers all legislation dealing with the professional and licensing boards and commissions in Pennsylvania. Those professionals range from physicians and cosmetologists to real estate agents and funeral directors.
“As the holder of five professional licenses, I bring a unique perspective to this committee,” said Helm. “It only makes sense to have someone with my background as a member to lend expertise in crafting legislation that impacts the tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians who hold professional licenses.”
As a member of the Urban Affairs Committee, Helm will be involved in issues affecting the state’s largest cities including housing; urban redevelopment; economic development; land use planning and zoning; growth management; infrastructure financing; and city services such as police, fire, sewage and water.
The Tourism and Recreation Development Committee considers legislation and issues ranging from tourism promotion and museum funding to the film industry and amusement parks.
