Parker Announces Committee Appointments
1/23/2015
HARRISBURG - State Rep. David Parker (R-Monroe) has been appointed to serve on the following four standing committees for the 2015-16 legislative session: Children and Youth, Commerce, Environmental Resources and Energy, and Gaming Oversight.

“Being a father of five children, a businessman, and an advocate for growing our economy and creating jobs in Pennsylvania, these four committee assignments are a perfect fit for me and the 115th District,” Parker said. “Committee work is where a great deal of the ‘heavy lifting’ on legislation is accomplished, and I am eager to get to work and take part in moving bills to the House floor for consideration.”

Responsibilities of the House Children and Youth Committee include interacting with the Health, Human Services and Judiciary committees in dealing with issues and concerns of the 18-year-old-and-under population. Parker responded to this committee assignment saying, “The people of Monroe County have voiced their concerns about our youth and I will work alongside Representative Jack Rader, a fellow committee member, to see to it that their concerns are addressed.”

The Commerce Committee is responsible for originating legislation and the oversight of programs which affect Pennsylvania companies and state economic development law. Parker is pleased to “be able to work together with Rep. Rosemary Brown on policies to help grow the economy of Monroe County.”

Pennsylvania’s abundance of natural gas and coal resources enables the Commonwealth to provide power to much of the East Coast. Having a voice on the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee will provide an opportunity to focus efforts on harnessing these resources while minimizing the impact on our environment.

“A seat on the Gaming Oversight Committee pairs well with having Mount Airy Casino and Resort in our district. From small games of chance to table games and slot machines, the gaming industry in Pennsylvania must be held to the highest standards, and the committee seeks to ensure that integrity.”

The 115th Legislative District includes Stroud, Price, Paradise, and Coolbaugh townships, and the boroughs of Stroudsburg, and East Stroudsburg.
