Toepel to Serve on Four State House Committees
HARRISBURG – Rep. Marcy Toepel (R-Montgomery) was selected to serve on four standing House committees during the 2015-16 legislative session. Toepel was assigned to the Consumer Affairs, Health, Judiciary and Professional Licensure committees.
“I am pleased to continue working as a member of the Judiciary Committee as it is an opportunity to update the restitution component of the criminal justice system,” said Toepel. “A change must be made, and I look forward to reintroducing legislation that will protect victims of crimes as a result of my position on the committee.”
The committees provide legislative oversight and help shape the language in bills that fall under their areas of responsibility.
The House Consumer Affairs Committee handles all legislation that protects buyers, such as the Credit Card Information Act, Pennsylvania Automobile Lemon Law and Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law.
The House Health Committee deals with legislation regarding pharmaceutical issues, nursing home licensure, health savings accounts, telemedicine and many health problems.
The House Judiciary Committee vets legislation regulating rules governing criminal and juvenile justice, crime victims, law enforcement, sexual offenses, tort reform and Evidence Code.
The House Professional Licensure Committee reviews legislation that establishes rules governing the licenses required to engage in certain professions in the Commonwealth.
