Cook Sworn in as First-Ever Republican State Representative in 49th Legislative District
1/3/2017
HARRISBURG – Joined by family, friends and supporters, State Rep. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) was officially sworn into office today at the state Capitol to begin his first term in the General Assembly serving the people of the 49th Legislative District.

“Taking the oath of office was the thrilling culmination of several years of hard work by hundreds of grassroots supporters, many of whom were here to witness this special occasion,” said Cook. “The celebration is over and the mission of serving and keeping my word to the people of the 49th District starts now.”

As a self-employed business owner and a proven team builder who has created jobs and successfully met a budget/payroll across several different businesses for more than 30 years, Cook reiterated his commitment to hitting the ground running as a newly elected state lawmaker. Cook is also the first Republican elected to the House of Representatives since the 49th Legislative District was created in 1969.

“Setting the tone for what laws are going to be put forth in order to restore our region and our Commonwealth to their rightful place of pre-eminence is the job of the Legislature,” said Cook. “Effectively governing on behalf of the people begins with advancing commonsense legislation that protects family-sustaining jobs, restores our local infrastructure, addresses the drug epidemic and holds government accountable. We must immediately seize the opportunity to demonstrate to the people that we are ready, willing and able to complete the mission they have sent us here to accomplish. The people who elected me to serve them deserve nothing less.”
