HARRISBURG – Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) issued the following statement in response to Tuesday’s vote by the House to terminate Gov. Tom Wolf’s COVID-19 disaster emergency declaration that has been in place since March 6, 2020:
“The end of the disaster declaration – and more importantly, the governor’s unilateral powers that go along with the declaration – is long overdue. The people of Pennsylvania deserve a voice in how our Commonwealth operates at all times, including during a pandemic. The General Assembly gave the voters the opportunity to be heard on this issue at the May 18 primary election, and our vote this week to end the declaration is in direct response to their votes. I am hopeful the Senate will take prompt action on the measure so we can continue working to put this pandemic behind us.”
House Resolution 106 seeks to fully terminate the COVID-19 disaster emergency declaration issued initially on March 6, 2020, and renewed five times by the governor since then.
The termination cannot take effect until the Senate also approves the measure.
