The AI Opportunity Task Force in Pennsylvania was established in 2024 to help identify opportunities for the adoption of AI across various industries throughout the Commonwealth and to guide legislative policy on the issue. With overlapping membership between the Task Force and the newly created House of Representatives Committee on Communications & Technology, our mission includes the following priorities, which will be reflected in our policy initiatives:
1. Demystify the concept of artificial intelligence for those unfamiliar;
2. Illuminate AI’s potential for those in traditionally non-tech industries; and
3. Leverage Pennsylvania’s existing infrastructure, workforce and energy resources for PA to Power AI.
We are fortunate to have industry leaders and start-ups in our Commonwealth who have already identified and begun to take advantage of some of these opportunities. However, Pennsylvania has lost significant opportunities to neighboring states, including a billion-dollar defensive tech facility in Ohio.
As we work to signal that PA is open for AI business, we are also focusing on generating the energy required for these systems. Whether in the form of natural gas, nuclear energy or coal, Pennsylvania has abundant resources, manpower and terrain to secure its position as the powerhouse of the digital age.
The Task Force will be engaging with experts and stakeholders who are ready to steer this new direction of American ingenuity. With the announcement of the new Administration’s investment in AI infrastructure and a focus on a Bitcoin strategic reserve, we expect this legislative session to focus heavily on the tech industry and its impact on other sectors. Pennsylvania can and should be the keystone of this investment.
We are also using this opportunity to scope out potential tours and testifiers for upcoming committee work and hearings. If you’re interested in securing a facility tour or speaking at a field hearing, please reach out to Representative Scialabba’s District Office: (724)772-3110.
