Zimmerman Says Heartbeat Bill Seeks to Preserve Life

Legislation that would ban abortions after the heartbeat of the unborn baby can be detected was introduced in Harrisburg on Monday. House Bill 1977, sponsored by Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-Centre, Clinton) would require all physicians to stop any abortion procedure if an unborn child’s heartbeat can be detected, which usually occurs between the sixth and eighth week of pregnancy. Rep. Dave Zimmerman (R-Lancaster), who co-sponsored the bill, said saving lives is paramount.
