Gabler Supports Bill Expanding School Choice Scholarships

In a victory for both students and taxpayers, the Pennsylvania House on Tuesday approved legislation to enhance a vital school choice program in the Commonwealth. House Bill 800 would expand Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program with $100 million in additional tax credits for scholarship organizations. Additionally, it includes an automatic escalator that would increase the funding for these scholarships by 10% in any year that 90% of the credits are claimed, allowing the program to grow to meet demand. Representative Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield & Elk) supported the legislation and said the expansion will help to allow more students to access the educational programs they need.

Nesbit Unveils Bill to Criminalize Sexual Extortion

Legislation that would create the offense of sexual extortion has been introduced in Harrisburg. House Bill 1402, sponsored by Rep. Tedd Nesbit (R-Butler, Mercer), would make it illegal to coerce an individual to engage in sexual conduct or create images or recordings of a sexual nature. Nesbit said people need to know that they have the full support of the law when someone tries to blackmail them into performing or recording a sexual act.

Millard Addresses Workers at Rally to Support PA’s Nuclear Energy Generation Industry, Save Jobs and Stabilize Prices

Hundreds of nuclear power and construction trade workers rallied at the state capitol Monday in support of legislation that would help to prevent the premature and permanent closure of Pennsylvania’s nuclear power generation plants. The bill would update the Pennsylvania Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act to recognize nuclear energy for its significant contribution to the state’s zero-carbon energy production, help control future electricity costs for consumers and ensure that existing nuclear power plants remain a viable source for Pennsylvania’s base load electricity supply. Cosponsor of the bill Rep. Dave Millard (R-Columbia), addressed workers at the event.
