Legislation designed to allow law enforcement agencies to take advantage of technological advances in DNA testing has been approved by the Pennsylvania House. Rep. Tedd Nesbit (R-Mercer & Butler), prime sponsor of House Bills 2307 and 2308, said his legislation will help exonerate those who have been falsely convicted, and help law enforcement match convicted criminals with other crimes that have been committed.

Legislation that would allow employers to voluntarily enact workplace violence prevention policies, including the installation of barriers and security systems, has been approved by the Pennsylvania House. Rep. Todd Stephens (R-Montgomery), prime sponsor of House Bill 2071, said he introduced his legislation in response to actions taken by the Philadelphia City Council to ban bulletproof partitions in certain restaurants.

Efforts by state Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Northampton) to tighten control over activities of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) are a step closer to becoming law following overwhelming bipartisan support of House Bill 652. Legislation that would bar the practice of providing lawmakers with state vehicles while in office was approved by the State House this week in Harrisburg. Prime sponsor of the bill Rep. Brad Roae (R- Crawford & Erie) said the reform is aimed at protecting the Commonwealth from liability in cases where the elected officials operating state provided vehicles may have spotty driving records. Roae’s bill now goes to the state Senate for consideration.
