A package of legislation designed to streamline state government was the topic of a press conference held recently in Harrisburg. A group of House Republicans have introduced several pieces of legislation that would consolidate disparate government agencies that offer similar or duplicative services, as well as eliminate obsolete programs. Rep. Frank Ryan (R-Lebanon) said his bill would merge the Department of Labor and Industry with functions from the Department of Community and Economic Development and Department of State to create the new Department of Business, Tourism and Workforce Development.

An examination of the inner workings of the Susquehanna and Delaware River Basin Commissions was the topic of discussion at a press conference held recently by Reps. Dan Moul (R-Adams) and Kristen Phillips-Hill (R-York). Both Moul and Phillips-Hill lauded the first-time audit of these commissions which are have been operating for years without any oversight or accountability. Moul said these commissions have expanded their reach beyond their authority, and need to be reined in.
