Committee to Consider Three Education Bills

WHAT: The House Education Committee, chaired by Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Erie), will hold a voting meeting to consider three proposals on a variety of education topics. They include measures that would instruct the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a study on the current shortage of school bus drivers and provide recommendations to address it (House Resolution 15); create the Select Committee on the Jobs of the Future to investigate, review and make findings and recommendations regarding opportunities for the development of new industries, including advanced manufacturing (House Resolution 60); and create the Secondary Education Fire Training Pilot Program and establish the Fire Training Fund (Senate Bill 83).

‘Duty to Report Disappearance of a Child’ Bill Passes Judiciary Committee, Says Boback

Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming) announced the passage of her legislation by the House Judiciary Committee that would require a report about a missing child be made within 24 hours after his or her whereabouts became unknown. The bill does offer protection for guardians who have a legitimate reason to believe the child is safe with someone else.

Metzgar to Designate PFC Alton Glenn Sterner Memorial Bridge in Rockwood Borough

WHAT: A portion of State Route 2016 (Rockdale Road) over the Casselman River will be designated as the PFC Alton Glenn Sterner Memorial Bridge. PFC Sterner was a native of Rockwood Borough who served with the U.S. Army 5th Regimental Combat Team during the Korean War. He gave his life in service to his country on June 19, 1953.

Cook’s Office to Hold PennDOT Flagger Safety Training
