WHAT: In response to the indictment of a local cemetery’s owners on fraud charges, state Rep. Keith Gillespie (R-Hellam) is hosting a legislative hearing to examine the current legal and regulatory requirements for cemeteries licensed by the state of Pennsylvania.

Led by House Majority Policy Committee Chairman Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin), legislators from across the state will review testimony and begin the process of determining if a statewide legislative fix is needed to prevent similar cases of fraud in the future.

The public is invited to attend and observe the hearing.

Testifiers will include several individuals personally impacted by the fraudulent practices and indictment of the local cemetery owners, including Betty Glatfelter, Annette Fisher, Victoria Knisely and Vickie Snyder. Also testifying will be Craig Schwalm, Pennsylvania Cemetery Cremation and Funeral Association; Jack Sommer, Prospect Hill Cemetery and Cremation Gardens and Greenmount Cemetery and Cremation Gardens; Elam Herr, Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors; and retired Judge John S. Kennedy, York County Court of Common Pleas.

WHEN: Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon.

WHERE: Northern York County Regional Police Department, 1445 E. Canal Road, Dover.
