HARRISBURG – To bar predators who have assaulted children from attacking others, the House approved legislation sponsored by Rep. Tom Quigley (R-Montgomery) that would enable them to face jail time. The bill would enhance the sentence for indecent exposure when the offense is committed in the presence of a person under the age of 16.
“Because of unfortunate occurrences that have happened in the 146th District, I realized that we must better protect the children of the Commonwealth. With the passage of my bill, those who commit the crime of indecent exposure of against children face the possibility of jail time,” Quigley said.
Offenders would face increased sentences based on how many people under the age of 16 are present, the age of each child under 16, as well as the nature and character of the indecent exposure.
Currently, the offense is graded as a second-degree misdemeanor, unless a person under age 16 is present, in which case it is graded as a first-degree misdemeanor.
The bill now advances to the Senate for consideration.
