HARRISBURG – In just his second full term in office, Rep. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton/Franklin) was handpicked by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Alleghany) as chairman of the Subcommittee on Health Care for the 2017-18 legislative session.
“It is truly an honor to have been selected to lead this important subcommittee,” Topper said. “With efforts underway in Washington D.C. to repeal Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act, Pennsylvania could have a larger say in shaping the health care landscape in the state for decades to come.”
The subcommittee will work under the umbrella of the House Health Committee, of which Topper is a member. The Health Committee focuses on issues such as disease management, stem cell research, health savings accounts, hospital-acquired infections, patient safety, pharmaceutical issues, telemedicine and much more.
“Representative Topper has been an active member on the standing Health Committee, and I know he will do an outstanding job as chairman of the subcommittee,” said Rep. Matt Baker (R-Tioga/Bradford/Potter), chairman of the House Health Committee. “He has a clear and sincere passion for improving health care in our state and I look forward to working with him in this endeavor.”
Last session, Topper’s telemedicine legislation was signed into law. Act 112 of 2016 increases patients’, particularly those in rural and underserved parts to the state, access to quality health care by allowing them to consult with and be treated by eligible licensed physicians in other states via telecommunications.
