HARRISBURG – Rep. Stephen Bloom (R-Cumberland) today introduced the enabling legislation for Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed unification of the Departments of Aging, Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP), Health, and Human Services (DHS) into a new Department of Health and Human Services.

In the governor’s budget address for the upcoming fiscal year, he presented an agency unification plan to achieve savings and efficiencies and to improve the delivery of services to Pennsylvanians.

“I am willing to work with any governor from any party to implement beneficial reforms like this, to make our state government more efficient and effective in delivering vital services, and to save money for our hardworking taxpayers,” Bloom said. “As a long-time proponent of responsible consolidation of state agencies, I am very pleased that the governor and my legislative colleagues from both sides of the aisle are showing serious interest in this positive initiative.”

Sen. Judy Schwank (D-11) will sponsor a similar proposal in the Senate. Visit here to view Bloom’s co-sponsorship memo.
