HARRISBURG — Rep. Zach Mako (R-Lehigh/Northampton) joined his colleagues in approving a $31.52 billion Fiscal Year 2017-18 state budget on Tuesday. He issued the followed statement in response:
“I’m pleased my first budget vote could be in support of a responsible plan that puts Pennsylvania on the right path for the future. It is a good step to live within our means. It cuts spending by $246 million over the current budget. It focuses government back to its core functions and reinvents Pennsylvania for the future generations. We cannot continue to operate in the same fashion as the 1970s. It’s time for innovation and to move forward. There are better ways to operate, and this plan does that.
“This proposal has no new taxes, fees or borrowing. It is encouraging to know that my House colleagues agree that it is impossible to tax and spend our way to prosperity. While I understand this is a step forward in the budget process, I’m hopeful the final product will be similar and not further burden the taxpayers. My focus remains on my priorities of property tax reform, job creation and infrastructure improvements.”
