HARRISBURG – Rep. John McGinnis (R-Blair) today voted against
House Bill 218, the budget bill for fiscal year 2017-18 which was passed by the House of Representatives by a vote of 114-84. The spending plan totals $31.52 billion, which is $815 million less than Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposal, and includes no tax increases or borrowing.
“While much good work has gone into this budget draft and it is a positive step to begin the process in April, we are once again insufficiently funding pensions which will grow our un-constitutional debt. Therefore, I had to be a ‘nay’ vote and remain faithful to my oath to uphold the Pennsylvania Constitution. Fifteen years of dereliction is enough, and it is certainly bad management practice to worry about new expenses when we haven’t properly addressed those unpaid from the past.”
House Bill 218 now goes to the Senate for consideration.
