HARRISBURG — Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement in response to the House passing a $31.52 billion Fiscal Year 2017-18 state budget:
“This is a good budget that challenges the status quo in Harrisburg. The way of budgeting in Harrisburg needed to be updated and changed from its current process, as it had become unsustainable. It starts with changing how government operates while adhering to its core functions and maintaining our commitment to education with no new taxes and no new borrowing. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to help spearhead this new approach and look forward to continuing my work on reinventing government to better serve the citizens of Pennsylvania.
“While this is an important step in the process, I’m hopeful the Senate and governor will carefully study the House plan to reinvent Pennsylvania and come on board.”
