HARRISBURG – As three weeks of budget hearings draw to a close, House Appropriations Chairman Stan Saylor (R-Red Lion) and Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover) joined Rep. Marguerite Quinn (R-Bucks) as she unveiled a new program, State Employees Achieving Savings (SEAS), to find additional ways the state can saving money.
SEAS and its accompanying webpage,
pabudget.com/report.aspx, allow current and former state employees a platform to submit ideas on how to cut costs and improve employee performance. They can remain anonymous or make themselves available for follow-up information.
“As state legislators we often hear from the leaders of the various state agencies, but it is also important that we hear from the men and women running the day-to-day operations. These men and women are on the ground level and are in the best position possible to provide us with ideas on how to better run state government,” Saylor said. “It is my hope that we will receive some good ideas on how to restructure the way we currently run state government.”
Submitted ideas will be reviewed and potentially implemented. Grove and Saylor noted since their districts are so close to Harrisburg, some of their constituents who are retired or current state workers may have ideas they’d like to share.
“These is a practice embraced by the private sector. Other governments, from the federal to local levels, have also sought input from their employees. The insight they received produced real savings and SEAS could lead to similar results,” Grove said. “I want to thank Rep. Quinn for her tireless work getting this initiative up and running.”
