HARRISBURG – Rep. Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget proposal revealed today in front of a joint session of the Legislature:
“Pennsylvania needs to learn, and then practice, fiscal restraint. A business or a household cannot, year after year, operate in the red. Instead of growth in government, we need to grow opportunity for employers and their employees. Let’s start by seriously reducing the burdensome regulations and redtape that stifle our small businesses.
“Of notable concern with the governor’s proposal is the introduction of a severance tax. The reality is we already have one – it’s called the impact fee. The impact fee provides support directly to counties and municipalities. I’m not interested in seeing that money redirected into the Harrisburg black hole.
“We have a long way to go, but today the governor showed that he understands the dire situation facing our state’s finances. I look forward to working with the governor and my colleagues in the coming months on an on-time, fair budget for all Pennsylvanians.”
