HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Franklin/Fulton) issued the following statement in response to today’s budget address by Gov. Tom Wolf.

“I am pleased Gov. Wolf has decided to not ask for massive tax increases on Pennsylvania workers as he did the past two years. And I am equally pleased the governor addressed in his budget proposal plans to streamline state government by the consolidation of several state departments and agencies. This is an area I am more than willing to explore but we must ensure the cost savings do add up. We must take the opportunity to restructure how Harrisburg operates.

“As in previous months-long budget processes, the governor’s address today was just the first step, but it was a step in the right direction. It now falls on representatives and senators to delve into the details and hash out the specifics. We need to take a serious and hard look at where we can tighten our belts to save money and cut red tape to allow businesses to thrive. We must also find common ground with the governor to pass a budget that does not place additional tax burdens on Pennsylvanians.

“I am hopeful the tone the governor took in his address will actually lead to a good productive process this year.”
