HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2017-18 budget address.

“It is good to see the governor did not call for massive tax increases as he did the past two years. The governor provided a starting point today to streamline government to curb costs while continuing to provide valuable services to residents. The main theme of the governor’s address was consolidation.

“For far too long state government has asked taxpayers to foot the bill while neglecting to address the real issue: Spending. This budget is founded in the fiscal realities of the Commonwealth and is the best starting point we’ve had in two years.

“The governor’s address was just the first step in the budget process and additional details of the governor’s plan will be analyzed in the weeks and months ahead. There will, undoubtedly, be debates going forward. I am committed to making state government work better for Pennsylvania residents at a lower cost to taxpayers.”
