Feb. 07, 2017
HARRISBURG – Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks) today issued the following statement regarding the governor’s 2017-18 budget proposal, which was unveiled earlier to the General Assembly:
“Today’s budget message from the governor was far different than during the previous two years, and I am pleased that he is taking many of our suggestions seriously. He outlined a plan to eliminate redundancies, streamline programs and services, and really make government work for the people who pay its bills. That’s a refreshing change.
“The governor outlined his priorities to include education and combining governmental agencies to reduce spending while hopefully preserving services. There are parts of his proposal that eliminate line items that have traditionally provided health and safety to agricultural operations in Pennsylvania.
“The governor’s proposals must be reviewed and examined. Does he move the function to another agency or completely eliminate it? That’s what I will be doing over the next few weeks.”
