HARRISBURG – Following the governor’s budget address Tuesday, Rep. Jim Marshall (R-Beaver/Butler) issued a statement outlining his priorities for the 2017-18 state budget:
“This year will be an especially difficult budget year, but it’s also an opportunity to look at the way we budget through a different lens. The governor seems to be committed to joining the Legislature in going over government spending and services with a fine-toothed comb to ensure it’s as efficient and effective as possible.
“Many people have expressed to me that reducing the size of state government is important to them. I’m glad the governor agrees. After hearing his address today, I’m optimistic that we can work together to reprioritize our state budget without asking the taxpayers for more of their hard-earned dollars or going deeper into debt.
“I’m glad to see the concept of consolidating and streamlining government services take center stage in the state budget process, as it’s a concept that myself and residents of the 14th District have supported for a long time. As we move forward in the budget process, we will need to take a closer look at the details of these proposals to ensure they achieve the cost-savings they claim, but overall I think we are heading in the right direction.
“As always, I remain committed to supporting a responsible budget that spends within its means, encourages job growth and does not force families or small businesses to send more of their hard-earned money to Harrisburg.”
