HARRISBURG – Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) issued the following statement as Gov. Tom Wolf kicked off the 2017-18 budget process with his proposal to the Legislature:
“The governor’s address is a starting point for the 2017-18 budget and I am glad to see his recognition of Pennsylvania’s serious financial issues. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues and the administration to pass an on-time budget that meets the needs of Pennsylvanians without imposing an undue tax burden.
“Although we did not hear about property tax reform today, I remain committed to keeping that issue at the forefront. The governor has expressed interest in working with the Legislature to achieve progress on property tax reform which is crippling parts of the Commonwealth – like Carbon County.
“While there is serious work to be done, I am optimistic about this year’s budget process because all parties involved have finally acknowledged the tenuous position of our state’s finances. Today’s events offer us a chance to restart Pennsylvania and begin moving forward on a sustainable track toward substantial reforms.”
