HARRISBURG – Rep. Kathy Watson (R-Bucks/144th) issued the following statement after the governor released his budget proposal for the 2017-18 fiscal year.

“Budgeting is all about priorities, and I am glad the governor is taking seriously the message from Pennsylvanians that they cannot afford higher taxes. Our residents are simply tapped out. I am intrigued by his plan that keeps spending in check and finds significant cost savings, while responsibly funding the core functions of government.

“However, he has put forth a rather ambitious plan to merge four different agencies into one larger department, and while I agree with streamlining services and programs and making sure that every dollar is used to its maximum benefit, I cannot help but have concerns about the long-term impact, especially on children and families.

“As chairman of the House Children and Youth Committee, I want to see every detail of this proposed merger to ensure that children are not falling through the cracks. I am hopeful that when we examine all the details of the merger, we can be relatively certain that children and families are being served as best as they can.”
