HARRISBURG – Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Erie) today offered the following statement after Gov. Tom Wolf delivered his 2017-18 budget address to the Pennsylvania House and Senate:

“As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I will be one of a select group of members to be involved in a series of budget hearings to delve further into the governor’s plan and ask pertinent questions of state department and agency heads to find out how we can cut costs while maintaining a high level of service to the people of Pennsylvania.

“I am more encouraged this year than in the past two previous budgets due to the governor’s new perspective in dropping his call for broad-based tax increases on working Pennsylvanians. Instead, he is looking to combine various state agencies in an effort to reduce costs and eliminate redundancies.

“I look forward to taking a closer look at his ideas and seeing if they hold merit. Nonetheless, I feel this change of mind on the governor’s part is a strong indication that he is willing to work with the Legislature to find some common ground.”
