HARRISBURG – The House Professional Licensure Committee today passed Rep. Sue Helm’s (R-Dauphin/Lebanon) bill, House Bill 21, which would amend the Engineer, Land Surveyor and Geologist Registration Law to require the licensure of home inspectors. Currently, this is the only unregulated profession in the home buying process.

“A home is most likely the largest, most valuable asset a person purchases in his or her lifetime, but can quickly turn into the largest nightmare if a home inspection is not conducted completely or properly,” said Helm. “This legislation will set statewide standards for the profession, protecting homebuyers from problems arising from undisclosed problems with the home.”

The bill was passed unanimously and is now before the House of Representatives for consideration.
