HARRISBURG – Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) has been appointed to serve on the Children and Youth, Human Services, Judiciary and Professional Licensure committees during the 2017-18 legislative session in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
“I am especially pleased to be able to continue my work with the Children and Youth and Judiciary committees for a fourth consecutive term,” said Toohil, who is also an attorney. “These two important committees have developed and passed new laws that provide better protection for Pennsylvania’s children, which is an issue that is of great interest to me. I look forward to furthering those efforts with my colleagues.”
The House Children and Youth Committee studies adoption and child protection issues, along with child day care services, infant/child/mother health issues, juvenile delinquency, and adolescent and teen problems.
The House Human Services Committee considers legislation related to programs and services for persons with disabilities, individuals who suffer from alcohol or drug addiction, and the professionals who help these communities.
The House Judiciary Committee focuses on issues and legislation relating to the Judicial Code, the Crimes Code and the Domestic Relations Code. Some of the topics overseen by the committee include identity theft, firearms laws, domestic violence, child abuse laws, state prisons and criminal law.
The House Professional Licensure Committee considers all legislation dealing with the 29 professional and licensing boards and commissions in Pennsylvania. Those professionals range from physicians and cosmetologists to real estate agents and funeral directors.
All bills are assigned to a standing committee to undergo review. Committees may hold hearings on legislation, consider amendments to pending bills and report them to the full House for a vote.
In addition to her committee assignments, Toohil is a member of the following caucuses: At Risk Children and Families, Autism and Intellectual Disabilities, Blue Lives Matter, Coal, Early Childhood Education, East Central, Gas and Oil, Government Reform, Homeless, Manufacturing, People with Intellectual Disabilities, Pro-Life, Property Tax Relief, Rural, Second Amendment, Troop PA Girl Scouts and YMCA.
