HARRISBURG – State Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover) issued the following statement in response to the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s (PASSHE) announcement of a strategic review into cost-saving measures.

“At the end of last session and in response to the contract dispute last year, I floated a similar legislative remedy to close the insolvent campuses and drive the savings back to the students in the form of lower tuition. I applaud PASSHE’s decision to conduct a review of its system to find ways to shave costs incurred by students and taxpayers. Enrollment at the 14 state-owned institutions of higher education has been on the decline the past six years. Despite the Board of Governors annually raising the cost of tuition for the past 15 years, and the General Assembly providing state appropriations annually, these universities have not been able to stabilize their finances.”
