HARRISBURG – State Rep. Brad Roae (R-Crawford/Erie) has been selected to serve on the powerful state House Appropriations Committee, a move that will ensure residents from the 6th Legislative District will have a voice in the state budget process.

Roae also will serve on the state House Insurance, Gaming Oversight and State Government committees.

“I plan to continue pushing for fiscally responsible spending policies in my new role on the House Appropriations Committee,” Roae said. “I believe Pennsylvania state government is spending too much, not taxing too little.”

The House Appropriations Committee conducts hearings to review the governor’s budget proposal and offer alternatives for consideration in the final state spending plan. Serving on the committee is a prestigious assignment and one of the more competitive ones a member can receive.

Roae also will serve on the House Gaming Oversight Committee, which is heavily involved with legislation relating to casino gambling and small raffles held by local entities. The committee could play a key role in efforts to reform the way the local share of casino gaming revenues are distributed to municipalities and any efforts to expand gaming to generate additional revenue.

“The Legislature could look to expanded gaming as a way to increase revenue without raising taxes on Pennsylvanians,” Roae said. “If that happens, I hope to play an important role as a member of this committee.”

The House State Government Committee deals with bills related to government reform and election processes.

“I look forward to working on issues like public pension reform and enhancing election security through my work on the State Government Committee,” Roae said. “We also deal with issues like reducing the size of the state Legislature and other government reform initiatives.”

Prior to serving in the state Legislature, from August 1992 to November 2006, Roae was a commercial underwriter with Erie Insurance. That professional experience will help him fulfill his service on the House Insurance Committee.

“I bring professional experience to the Insurance Committee,” Roae said. “I have dealt first hand with some of the issues that are addressed in the legislation brought before this committee.”
