HARRISBURG – This week, Rep. Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming) was named chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Education for the 2017-18 legislative session. She will also serve on the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness, Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Tourism and Recreational Development committees.

The Appropriations Committee is tasked with drafting an annual budget proposal, hearing testimony from state agencies regarding their budgetary issues and reviewing proposed legislation to determine its fiscal impact. The Subcommittee on Education will be charged with looking at education spending in the budget both in terms of preK-12 education and higher education.

“I have had the opportunity to serve on the Appropriations Committee for several years, and I am grateful to have a seat at the table as we work on many of the Commonwealth’s most important fiscal issues. I am excited to serve as the chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Education this session. As a former educator, education issues are incredibly important to me, and I look forward to representing our region on the House Appropriations Committee,” Boback continued.
