HARRISBURG – This week, Rep. Jerry Knowles (R-Berks/Carbon/Schuylkill) received his House committee assignments for the 2017-18 legislative session. Knowles, who was sworn in earlier this month for his fifth term representing the people of the 124th District, will serve as a member of the following four committees:
• The
Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for developing the annual state budget and reviewing most legislation that has a financial impact on the state.
• The
Judiciary Committee, which focuses on issues and legislation relating to the Judicial Code, the Crimes Code and the Domestic Relations Code. Some of the topics overseen by the committee include identity theft, firearms laws, domestic violence, child abuse laws, state prisons and criminal law.
• The
Professional Licensure Committee, which deals with the 29 licensing boards located administratively in the Department of State. The department provides the boards and commissions with legal, technical and logistical support to administer their licensure programs.
• The
State Government Committee, which is responsible for reviewing legislation dealing with all aspects of state government, including proposed amendments to the Pennsylvania Constitution, statewide initiatives and referenda, the Public Official and Employee Ethics Act, the Regulatory Review Act, legislative redistricting, Election Code reform, lobbyist disclosure and campaign financing.
“Each of these committees handles very important state policy issues, and it is a great opportunity to serve as a member of each of them,” Knowles said. “I look forward to the committees getting to work, as I have already introduced bills which I am hopeful will be considered soon.”
