HARRISBURG — The House of Representatives on Monday passed a bill sponsored by Rep. Jim Gregory (R-Blair) to honor the legacy of Cpl. Donald L. Westley through naming a bridge in Blair County for the veteran fatally wounded in combat in December 1944.
Westley, of Northwood, Blair County, enlisted with the Pennsylvania National Guard’s Troop B, 104th Cavalry, and trained at Fort Indiantown Gap. He served in France, Luxembourg and Belgium during World War II.
He was wounded in combat on Dec. 27, 1944, and died three days later.
Gregory’s
House Bill 1973 would designate a bridge on State Route 4027 over Bald Eagle Creek in Snyder Township the Cpl. Donald L. Westley Memorial Bridge.
“I’m so grateful for what Cpl. Westley did to protect our nation’s ideals and am thankful I can take this small step to memorialize him,” Gregory said.
The bill passed the House on Monday and goes to the Senate for its consideration.
