HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Wolf’s $36.06 billion budget proposal for 2020-21 represents a dangerous increase of $2.05 billion from the previous year’s approved spending plan, according to Rep. John Hershey (R-Mifflin/Juniata/Franklin).
“The governor’s budget makes a lot of promises, but promises can’t materialize unless they are paid for,” Hershey said. “In Pennsylvania, we must have a balanced budget, which means that a 4.2% increase in spending must be paid for by a combination of new taxes.”
Hershey shared concerns about the potential impact on the residents of the 82nd District.
“Juniata, Mifflin and Franklin counties elected me with a mandate to oppose new taxes, and the governor’s unsustainable spending spree must be stopped. The average family in my district has to work within in a budget; it’s time that Pennsylvania does the same. The governor should have spent more time during his budget address discussing how he is going to pay for his fanciful proposals and less time talking about gun control,” he said.
The state budget must be in place before July 1.
