HARRISBURG – Rep. Rich Irvin (R-Huntingdon/Centre/Mifflin) today issued the following statement in reaction to the governor’s 2020-21 budget address before the General Assembly:
“I have and continue to be a proponent of reducing taxes and spending within our means, and when we have robust revenue growth like we are currently experiencing, we need to put that money in the Rainy Day Fund for times of future economic downturns.
“However, the governor today expressed a desire to increase spending by $2 billion over the current year’s enacted budget, along with assuming additional debt. His vision is inspired but I believe it would harm, rather than help, Pennsylvania in the long run.
“Of course, this is only the first step in the budget process, and we will need to look closer at what exactly the governor is proposing, as his plan as presented today lacked detail.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues and the governor to craft a budget that is responsible to the taxpayers of Pennsylvania and continues us on a path for success.”
