HARRISBURG – Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget proposal:
“What we have seen from the governor today is more of the same – more spending, more taxes and more debt,” said Struzzi. “The governor outlined a budget that would spend over $2 billion more than the 2019-20 budget. This is unacceptable. My immediate concerns are that these increases in spending don’t correlate with the amount of revenue we expect.”
“Last year we came together to craft a budget that kept spending under control, made strong investments in workforce development and education and most importantly transferred money to our Rainy Day Fund, which is essentially the state savings account. We need to do the same thing this year and come together to craft a budget that is more responsible to our taxpayers while still funding the agencies and organizations that need it.”
“Additionally, the governor chose to politicize his budget address by promoting his gun control agenda. I remain adamantly opposed to the infringement of our Second Amendment rights as Americans, and I pledge to fight to protect those rights.”
“We heard a few good ideas such as Pre-K funding, workforce development and mental health services. But the governor presented his proposal as a ‘blueprint,’ which I did not see. I saw a lot of ideas without a lot of substance. It will be our job to provide that substance.”
