Feb. 04, 2020

HARRISBURG – Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) today joined her House and Senate colleagues for a joint session of the General Assembly to hear Gov. Tom Wolf outline his budget proposal for the 2020-21 fiscal year.

Toohil issued the following statement in reaction to the governor’s $36 billion spending plan:

“I cannot support the two billion more in spending, more taxes and more debt that’s being called for by the governor. It is reckless to do so on the backs of our children.

“I am confident the House Republican Caucus will put together a more acceptable budget plan which continues to grow the economy and attract family-sustaining jobs to our great Commonwealth. We will also fund basic education in a targeted and innovative way.”

Toohil noted that the governor’s address is just the beginning of the annual budget process. The House Appropriations Committee will conduct a series of hearings starting Tuesday, Feb. 18, to examine the details of the governor’s plan and how state agencies are spending their funding. A schedule of the hearings is available at pahousegop.com.
