Nelson Reacts to Governor’s Budget Proposal

HARRISBURG – Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s $36.06 billion budget proposal:

“While the governor raised a lot of heartfelt issues, the administration has overspent almost $800 million this year. So instead of having a public, transparent dialogue and debate about where we should make investments, he has already increased debt and overspent which significantly ties our hands. 

“For the second year in a row, the governor is massively spending more than the agreed-to budget from June. There are some reasonable goals in his address, but our revenues have been prematurely spent on other things. Government just can't do it all. We must get our fiscal house in order and should not take out more loans to pay for things. 

“As the father of six, I cannot support burdening my children with debt for decades to come. I look forward to finding a compromise that stops the overspending and encourages the economic growth of Pennsylvania’s current and future economy.”
