HARRISBURG – Rep. Dave Reed (R-Indiana) today was once again elected by his colleagues in the House Republican Caucus to serve as majority leader of the House of Representatives for the upcoming legislative session. The session begins Dec. 1, and the Legislature will be sworn-in on Jan. 3.

Reed’s election as leader comes a week after Republicans increased their majority in the House from 119 to 122 members, the largest majority the House has seen since the 1957-58 session. The gains ensure that Republicans will control the House for the fourth session in a row.

“It is an honor to once again be entrusted by colleagues to become the majority leader of the House of Representatives,” Reed said. “As a leadership team and as a caucus, we plan to build on the solid foundation we have laid to stand up for taxpayers and move Pennsylvania forward.

“We have successfully led the way on reforms to our welfare, unemployment and liquor systems, while enacting two budgets. Republican efforts led to the enactment of a new Basic Education Funding formula and legislation halting union intimidation; strengthened transparency in state contracts; strengthened public/private partnerships giving parents more school choices; and protected the neediest among us.”

Looking toward the next session, Reed set the caucus priorities.

“This upcoming session, we plan to continue working across the aisle on energy-related issues, reforming the property tax system and addressing the unsustainable pension system. Understanding that every child deserves a quality education, we will work together to help fix those school districts needing reform. And finally, we will allow the business community to grow to create family-sustaining jobs and career opportunities.”

Reed has represented the 62nd Legislative District since 2002. His colleagues elected him in 2010 as chairman of the House Majority Policy Committee. In that position, Reed has led hearings on important issues, including poverty, taxation, energy and welfare reform in an effort to develop responsible and effective legislation to benefit the entire Commonwealth. In addition, Reed has served as chairman of the House Republican Campaign Committee from 2009-2014. On Nov. 8, Reed won re-election for an eighth House term.
