BELLE VERNON – Rep. Bud Cook (R-Fayette/Washington) announced today that the Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee will be hosting a tour and informational meeting in Washington County on Thursday, March 5, beginning at 9 a.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the status of Pennsylvania’s electric cogeneration industry.
The committee, of which Cook is a member, will be touring the Steelhead Compressor Station in Marianna Borough, followed by an informational meeting at the Mon Valley Hospital, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center in Monongahela. The informational meeting will feature guest speaker Gary Merritt, regulatory affairs manager at Northern Star Generation.
“I am excited that our bi-partisan, bi-cameral committee is able to come out to the 49th District for this important meeting and tour,” said Cook. “This should be an interesting and informative discussion and I look forward to hearing what our speaker has to say regarding our Commonwealth’s electric cogeneration industry and how it affects our region.”
Over the course of three decades, Pennsylvania’s cogeneration plants have burned waste coal to generate electricity, and in the process, have cleared long-standing pollution sources that harm our natural resources and wildlife.
