HARRISBURG— Rep. Todd Stephens (R-Montgomery) today called on the Pennsylvania Department of Health to identify the schools, grades and classrooms to families who attend schools with a student who tests positive for COVID-19.
In addition, Rep. Todd Stephens (R-Montgomery) announced he will introduce legislation requiring the state to provide this information to families with students in the school.
“I understand the need for privacy but believe we must provide information to parents so they can protect their children who may have been exposed to a student who is sick,” explained Stephens.
Stephens has heard from many parents after schools in his legislative district were shut down pending testing of a student who displayed symptoms after being exposed to a pediatrician who tested positive for the virus. He believes releasing the information to parents is essential to protect the public health and will also reduce fear and panic of the uncertainty regarding their child’s expose to someone who has been tested.
“Leaving families in the dark only frightens parents who want to know if their children are at risk,” Stephens said. “Parents are understandably concerned and deserve to have additional information so they can make informed decisions about protecting their family.”
