HARRISBURG –Rep. Meghan Schroeder (R-Bucks) today announced the House of Representatives has approved legislation she authored to update the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).
“Recognizing that our students are being faced with a great deal of adversity during this time, we want to ensure our state universities are fully equipped to take on new challenges so our students continue receiving the highest quality of education under any circumstance,” Schroeder said.
House Bill 2173 would make needed reforms to streamline reporting,in addition to clarifying and updating statutory language. These reforms include clarifying language regarding cooperative use or purchasing agreements; removing outdated terminology; easing redundant reporting requirements; and exempting student records and emails from the Right to Know Law.
The legislation is part of a three-bill package, including
House Bill 2171 and
House Bill 2172 to update the law and permit PASSHE to better manage the higher education system since its enabling legislation has not been updated since 1982.
“As a proud graduate of Millersville University, I am beyond grateful for the opportunities I received as a student and want others to be able to have those same opportunities for years to come,” Schroeder said.“These measures will help the system be more efficient and in turn will save money.”
House Bill 2173 now awaits consideration in the state Senate.
