HARRISBURG – On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives approved an amendment introduced by Rep. Chris Quinn (R-Delaware) to reopen arboreta and botanical gardens under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state guidelines.

House Bill 2489 would allow outdoor recreational activities to reopen throughout Pennsylvania with CDC and state guidelines. Quinn’s amendment adds arboreta and botanical gardens to the list of approved activities under the legislation.

“Having these passive recreational activities open for business is good for our physical and mental health,” Quinn said. “These businesses can easily practice social distancing and implement other mitigation techniques.

“With Tyler Arboretum in my district, I know just how critical these facilities are and how much they mean to the public. Reopening them in a safe manner makes sense at this point,” concluded Quinn.

House Bill 2489 will be voted upon by the House as early as next week.
