HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives today passed a temporary $25.8 billion budget bill that will fund the majority of the state for the next five months with the exception of education, which will be funded for the next 12 months. Following House passage of
House Bill 2387, Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Berks) released this statement:
“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a great deal of economic uncertainly, not just for families but also the state. By changing tax collection dates to July and August, we won’t have the necessary information to project revenues. In addition, the extent of federal funding is still being allocated and remains an unknown factor. Due to these uncertainties, we made the decision to create a short-term budget that will keep the state moving forward until we can better assess the state’s revenue picture.
“This budget appropriately funds priorities like education, which will be fully funded at 2019-20 levels for a full 12 months, and puts a focus on protecting those most vulnerable from the coronavirus.
“A five-month budget, although unusual, provides some stability for those who rely on state programs and funding.”
