HARRISBURG – Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) issued the following statement after the state House voted to approve a partial budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year:
“While we have faced some challenging state budgets in recent years, the COVID-19 pandemic has made this year especially difficult. There’s no question the economic impact of the governor’s extended shutdown order has been devastating, but it’s too early to know the exact price tag. Adopting a budget to cover just a portion of the year gives us the time we need to get a fuller picture of just how bad the impact is and to gauge any early signs of recovery.
“While most elements in the budget are funded for a period of five months, we have committed funding our schools for the full fiscal year so our school officials know what funding they have to work with as they make plans to get our kids back in the classroom for a full academic year this fall.”
The total spending in this partial budget is $25.8 billion. The majority of line items are funded at approximately 42% of the funding they received in the current fiscal year.
