HARRISBURG – Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana) and Sen. Joe Pittman (R-Armstrong/Butler/Indiana/Westmoreland) today announced that the House of Representatives today passed Senate Bill 1108, which would distribute $7,592,536 in federal relief funds to Indiana County through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

“These are truly unprecedented times in Pennsylvania and throughout the nation. Businesses are suffering, people are scared, and the future is uncertain. These funds will go a long way in providing much-needed relief, and hopefully some peace of mind, for everyone being affected by this pandemic,” said Struzzi. “The roles held by Sen. Pittman and myself on our respective Appropriations committees have allowed us to play a critical role in determining how to best allocate these funds. I am proud to have done, and to continue to do, everything in my power to help Pennsylvanians during this pandemic.”

Funds from the CARES Act will also be allocated across various state agencies and departments to provide government services throughout the state. Highlights include $225 million for a Statewide Small Business Assistance Program; $632 million for nursing homes, long-term care and personal care; $20 million for food assistance programs; and $50 million for volunteer fire companies and emergency medical service (EMS) companies. A full breakdown of allocations across state departments and agencies can be viewed here.

“I am pleased Indiana County was appropriated these funds to help the county get back on track following the devastating impacts of the coronavirus,” said Pittman. “It is my hope these dollars will primarily help the struggling healthcare system of Indiana County that has resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Senate Bill 1108 has been approved by both chambers of the Legislature and is now awaiting the governor’s signature.
