HARRISBURG – Rep. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford/Potter) issued the following statement in response to Speaker of the House Mike Turzai’s (R-Allegheny) announcement that he will retire next week.

“I am deeply honored to have had the opportunity to serve with Speaker Turzai. When I was elected two years ago in a special election, the speaker was very welcoming. Despite his extraordinarily busy schedule, he took the time to help me learn the ins and outs of the legislative process, which has helped me serve the people of the 68th District more effectively.

“The speaker is very passionate about protecting the unborn, ensuring access to a quality education for all, and building an economy that creates opportunities for family-sustaining careers, just to name a few. He has been equally passionate about understanding the unique challenges facing rural communities like ours. I was honored to host him when he traveled to Tioga County to meet with area business leaders and the president of Mansfield University earlier this year.

“Speaker Turzai’s decision to retire will leave a big hole in the Legislature and not just at the speaker’s rostrum. I thank him for his service and wish him continued success.”
