HARRISBURG – Focused on helping protect the state’s vulnerable senior population, Rep. Gary W. Day (R-Berks/Lehigh) announced today that his House Bill 2509 received bipartisan support as it was passed by the House with a vote of (202-0). The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
“Our elderly population has struggled through this pandemic, especially those who reside in nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Establishing a grant program to reimburse personal protection equipment purchases is crucial to helping those facilities combat COVID-19,” said Day. “I am truly pleased that my colleagues were supportive of this legislation and the senior residents and facility employees that it will benefit.”
Day’s legislation would establish the Long-Term Care Facility Personal Protective Equipment Reimbursement Grant Program. The Pennsylvania Department of Aging would be responsible for creating requirements and standards for the program, including an application process.
The bill ensures the grant cannot cover more than 50% of the purchase cost of personal protective equipment acquired by long-term care facilities. It also stipulates the grants cannot be used to reimburse the costs of personal protective equipment purchased or reimbursed by another federal or state grant program.
